Known for its beautiful deep red wood, the Palo Sangre tree is the rectangular component of these lovely earrings. There are two designs, one featuring genuine quill dangles and huayruru bead accents, and the other featuring cascading dangles of several multicolored beads. Huayruru beads are natural two-tone seeds from this distinctive group of tropical trees in the bean family, mostly orange with a distinctive black patch. Throughout the Amazon they are considered to bring the bearer good luck, but it is important to remember that they are not edible. Different closely related huayruru species (Ormosia spp.) have small, medium or large size seeds. which are naturally occuring.
These earrings are made by expert artisans from Iquitos who have worked with the Center for Amazon Community Ecology for ten years. The French hooks are made with non-allergenic material.
