Palo sangre and huayruru seed earrings - made by Peruvian Amazon artisan

Sale price$15.00

These beautiful earrings feature a cross-piece of deep red palo sangre wood with dangles of small red and black beads matched with a natural orange and black huayruru seed on top.  Huayruru is the common name for a distinctive group of tropical trees in the bean family.  They are considered good luck, but it is important to remember that they are not edible.

These earrings are made by a talented artisan from Iquitos who has worked with the Center for Amazon Community Ecology for over ten years.  The French hooks are made with non-allergenic material.

Support native artisans
& rainforest in the Amazon

Amazon forest loss is driving species to extinction, aggravating global warming, and robbing people of unique medicines, foods and other benefits. Cutting and burning forests is often more profitable than conserving them, so some native communities in northern Peru have illegally logged and grown coca and other cash-crops to escape poverty.
