Woven hot pad (trivet) and center piece with green and white rings

Sale price$20.00

This hot pad and center piece was designed by Bora artisan Monica Chichaco from the village of Brillo Nuevo on the Ampiyacu River.  It features alternating rings of forest green and natural off-white chambira palm fiber with a green center.  The pattern is inspired by the colors of the loro machaco (green tree pit viper) snake whose body blends in well with leaves.  Like all hand-made crafts, its exact design may vary from the photo of the model.

Support native artisans
& rainforest in the Amazon

Amazon forest loss is driving species to extinction, aggravating global warming, and robbing people of unique medicines, foods and other benefits. Cutting and burning forests is often more profitable than conserving them, so some native communities in northern Peru have illegally logged and grown coca and other cash-crops to escape poverty.
