Coconut Shell Earrings, Variety of Designs
Highlight nature and the creative possibilities of coconut shell, with these earrings offered in several inspired designs. Some feature an accent bead of huayruru seeds, naturally two-tone seeds from this distinctive group of tropical trees in the bean family, mostly deep orange with a distinctive black patch. Throughout the Amazon huayruru seeds are considered to bring the bearer good luck, but it is important to remember that they are not edible. Other closely related huayruru species (Ormosia spp.) have small, medium or large size seeds. Others have a white bead, or an achira bead, see choices pictured below.
Motif designs include leaf, half circle, circle, half moon, flower, falcate leaf and toucan.
These earrings are made by an expert artisan from Iquitos who has worked with the Center for Amazon Community Ecology for ten years. The French hooks are made with non-allergenic material.
Please remember that these handmade crafts may vary from the photos shown.

Support native artisans & rainforest in the Amazon
Amazon forest loss is driving species to extinction, aggravating global warming, and robbing people of unique medicines, foods and other benefits. Cutting and burning forests is often more profitable than conserving them, so some native communities in northern Peru have illegally logged and grown coca and other cash-crops to escape poverty.
