Fish woven chambira tree ornament from the Peruvian Amazon
These unique fish ornaments were made from chambira palm fiber by an artisan from the campesino village of San Francisco on the Maranon River in the Peruvian Amazon.
One model represents the clownfish which swims unmolested among the stinging tentacles of sea anemone. The popular animated movie character "Nemo" is based on this fish which is popular in the aquarium trade.
The other tropical fish is a blue tang - the fish that Nemo's movie buddy Dory is based on.
Please remember that these ornaments are handmade by different artisans so they may not exactly look like the photos for this model.
Model: ORF007; ORF018
Support native artisans & rainforest in the Amazon
Amazon forest loss is driving species to extinction, aggravating global warming, and robbing people of unique medicines, foods and other benefits. Cutting and burning forests is often more profitable than conserving them, so some native communities in northern Peru have illegally logged and grown coca and other cash-crops to escape poverty.
