Calabash Wildlife Design Earrings - handmade by native Peruvian Amazon artisan
These fun earrings feature an intricate, hand-etched motif carved into pieces of calabash, tree pods (gourds), by native artisans from the Ampiyacu River region of the Peruvian Amazon. Design choices include parrot, dolphin, frog and toucan. These earrings are lightweight and represent a traditional creative craft in Peru. Calabash measures 1.5 x 1.75 in.
These earrings are made by an expert artisan from Iquitos who has worked with the Center for Amazon Community Ecology for ten years. The French hooks are made with non-allergenic material.

Support native artisans & rainforest in the Amazon
Amazon forest loss is driving species to extinction, aggravating global warming, and robbing people of unique medicines, foods and other benefits. Cutting and burning forests is often more profitable than conserving them, so some native communities in northern Peru have illegally logged and grown coca and other cash-crops to escape poverty.
