Cana Flecha Earrings, Black and White, Spiral Design, Turquoise or Huayruru Bead

Sale price$20.00

These stylish boho-style earrings convey the casual and exotic sense of the Amazon.  The intricate geometric patterns are woven from caña flecha - the cane that is named for the long stiff plant whose stems are made into arrows by traditional Amazon hunters. The inner core is made from a strong and flexible resin. This model features a spiral design with unique black and white patterns.  Stone accent choices include synthetic turquoise, or huayruru seeds, which are naturally occurring two-tone seeds from this distinctive group of tropical trees in the bean family and are mostly orange with a distinctive black patch.  Throughout the Amazon they are considered to bring the bearer good luck, but it is important to remember that they are not edible.  Different closely related huayruru species (Ormosia spp.) have small, medium or large size seeds.

These earrings are made by an expert artisan from Iquitos who has worked with the Center for Amazon Community Ecology for ten years.  The French hooks are made with non-allergenic material.

Please remember that these handmade crafts may vary from the photos shown.

Support native artisans
& rainforest in the Amazon

Amazon forest loss is driving species to extinction, aggravating global warming, and robbing people of unique medicines, foods and other benefits. Cutting and burning forests is often more profitable than conserving them, so some native communities in northern Peru have illegally logged and grown coca and other cash-crops to escape poverty.
