This fun ceramic water whistle represents the pileated woodpecker.  This large woodpecker can be heard pounding into trees in search of insects even before its red crest can be seen.  It is now recovering in much of its former range to inspire people with its powerful flight and cry.

Blow into this fun ceramic whistle and you get one sound - add some water and blow again to get a fun trill that sounds just like a bird!  .

Each little flute has a hole that can be left uncovered or covered with your finger to vary the pitch of the whistle.  It has one extra loop for a clasp or string to wear your whistle with you anywhere.

Made by local artisans from the city of Iquitos in the heart of the Peruvian Amazon.

These crafts were handmade by different artisans so the whistles may vary from the photo shown for their model.

Support native artisans
& rainforest in the Amazon

Amazon forest loss is driving species to extinction, aggravating global warming, and robbing people of unique medicines, foods and other benefits. Cutting and burning forests is often more profitable than conserving them, so some native communities in northern Peru have illegally logged and grown coca and other cash-crops to escape poverty.
