This stunning design of a chambira palm fiber hot pad and center piece was designed by Bora artisan Ena Chichaco from the village of Brillo Nuevo on the Ampiyacu River.  It features geometric design of an 8 pointed sun surrounded by rings of yellow and orange colored with natural plant dyes.  Like all hand-made crafts, the exact design of this model varies a little from the photo depending on the artisan who wove it.

& rainforest in the Amazon

Amazon forest loss is driving species to extinction, aggravating global warming, and robbing people of unique medicines, foods and other benefits. Cutting and burning forests is often more profitable than conserving them, so some native communities in northern Peru have illegally logged and grown coca and other cash-crops to escape poverty.
