Blueberry and lime color chambira basket - made by artisan from the Peruvian Amazon
This decorative handmade basket would look great on a table to hold mail or knick-knacks or hung from a wall to show off its unique design. This basket was woven with natural chambira palm fiber and plant dyes. This design features a lime green center, interlaced rings of purple and turquoise and black wooden beads in the "ears" of the six rounded star points.
The sale of these baskets supports forest conservation and helps meet local needs in traditional communities in Peru. This basket was made by a campesino artisan from the association Manos Amazonicas (Amazon Hands) in the village of Chino on the Tahuayo River. Each basket comes with a tag listing the name and village of the artisan who made it and the plants used to make it.
This extra-large Six-point star basket is 13 inches across.

Support native artisans & rainforest in the Amazon
Amazon forest loss is driving species to extinction, aggravating global warming, and robbing people of unique medicines, foods and other benefits. Cutting and burning forests is often more profitable than conserving them, so some native communities in northern Peru have illegally logged and grown coca and other cash-crops to escape poverty.
