BLUEBIRD BIRD - FAIR TRADE CHRISTMAS TREE ORNAMENT - WOVEN BY PERUVIAN AMAZON ARTISAN

Sale price$16.00

These unique fair-trade ornaments represent two species of bluebirds from the U.S.  The most common and best know is the Eastern Bluebird - the beautiful blue bird with a rusty colored breast stands out in fields and nests in boxes put out by people wanting to help it produce more young.

We will soon add the Mountain Bluebird to our collection of chambira woven ornaments to give people a chance to appreciate its western cousin with a pale blue breast.  Either one will look great hanging on your Christmas tree, rear-view mirror or adding a colorful touch to another part of your home.

This ornament was woven with chambira palm fiber by a native Amazon artisan. The sale of these ornaments supports forest conservation and helps meet local needs in traditional communities in Peru. These bird ornaments were made artisans from the campesino village of San Francisco on the Maranon River.

Sometime we don't get a model right the first time (or more) so we also have another variety of the Eastern bluebird which is very well made, but its wings are more purplish than the classic cobalt blue of the actual species.  This model will be discontinued when supplies run out.

Each ornament comes with a tag listing the name and home of the artisan who made it and the plants used to make it.

Please remember that each ornament is hand-made so the exact design may vary from the photo of this model.

Model: ORB101 (Eastern bluebird); ORB150 (Mountain bluebird)

size: Eastern bluebird - standard

& rainforest in the Amazon

Amazon forest loss is driving species to extinction, aggravating global warming, and robbing people of unique medicines, foods and other benefits. Cutting and burning forests is often more profitable than conserving them, so some native communities in northern Peru have illegally logged and grown coca and other cash-crops to escape poverty.
