CERAMIC AMAZON CHULLACHAQUI INCENSE HOLDER - MADE BY PERUVIAN AMAZON ARTISAN

These unique hand-made ceramic incense holder represents the legendary Amazon forest character Chullachaqui also known as Shapishico in parts of Peru.  Chullachaqui (uneven  foot) is sometimes considered an elf or guardian of the forest - sometimes considered a mischievous demon who lures people into the forest to get lost. They were shaped and painted by a father and son team of artisans from the town of Padre Cocha. 

This model is just shy of 5" tall.  A standard incense stick can fit into the trunk being grasped by Chullachaqui. 

The sale of this craft supports forest conservation and helps meet local needs in traditional communities in Peru. Each ornament comes with a tag listing the name and home of the artisan who made it and the plant used to make it.
