Palm nut turtle necklaces - made by native artisans from the Brazilian Amazon

The turtle figures in these necklaces were painstakingly carved from the nuts of two types of rainforest palm trees from the Brazilian Amazon. 

One model features a row of 6 turtles carved from brown inaja palm (Attalea maripa) nuts with a necklace full of individually cut diamond shaped dark brown tucuma palm (Astrocaryum vulgare) nut pieces. It has a total length of 22 inches.

The other model features a row of 13 turtles carved from dark brown tucuma palm nut pieces hanging from a necklace of black beads.  Its total length is 21 inches.

Both necklaces were made by artisans from the Ka'apor indigenous community of Xi'e on the Gurupi River in the eastern Brazilian Amazon.
