Wagon wheel chambira basket (faded) - made by artisan from the Peruvian Amazon
Hurry up, only 1 item left in stock.
This chambira basket is one of the first crafts we bought from an artisan from the town of Jenaro Herrera on the Ucayali River. It was tightly woven with a simple design of green and dark pink spokes emerging from a green ring in the center. Like wagon wheels that have traveled far, this basket shows signs of its age. So its price has been reduced in the hope that it may yet find a place in someone's home who appreciates its vintage look. It measures 9.75 inches across.
The sale of these baskets supports forest conservation and helps meet local needs in traditional communities in Peru. This basket was made by a campesino artisan from the association Manos Amazonicas (Amazon Hands) in the village of Chino on the Tahuayo River. Each basket comes with a tag listing the name and village of the artisan who made it and the plants used to make it.
